💔 SCHEDULED FOR EUTH TODAY 3/1@ 5PM EVEN WITH OPEN KENNELS 💔 I got an email Thursday evening for a dog with a 24 hour deadline. Twenty four hours. Chata has only been at the shelter since February 22nd. Four days to lose everything and be expected to adjust inside an 8 by 10 plastic kennel filled with noise and strangers. She was owner surrendered, and her body tells a story. Pressure sores on her back legs. A dull coat. She looks like she has had multiple litters. She looks worn down and tired. During my visit yesterday to take this video, yes, she barked at me at first. It stopped almost instantly. I stayed calm. I spoke softly to her. She watched me. Her body settled. What I saw was not aggression. It was a dog who looks uncomfortable in her own body. She moves like she may be in discomfort. I dont know what medical exams, blood work, or X rays have been done to rule out something going on, but she looks defeated. The notes say reactive. Barking. Growling. Stiff. Freezing. But in that loud, chaotic building, fear looks big. When given a moment, she showed me she can regulate. The notes even say she softened with a helper dog. Sniffed. Loosened. Wagged. Initiated play. That is still in her. Less than a week there. A body that shows hardship. A dog who settled with simple kindness. . She does not need a label.
