My daughter dropped her phone in the pool last fall. I built a pressure vessel out of 3" pvc fittings and tapped it for a refrigerant fitting. Put the phone in and hooked up vac pump to remove the moisture. I feel like if I would have had this rig ready to go, instead of having to make it on the fly, I would have been successful

You actually made a mistake there with the hot water in the bottle. It was not because you made the air hot. It was because you displaced the air with water vapor. When you put it in the cold that water vapor condensed and significantly lowered the water vapor pressure insidethe bottle. This wasn’t about the heat, it was about the phase change

honestly kind of proud of myself. I'm not an HVAC guy, though I have done some work on chillers before. just knowledge from my trade school I knew enough of the principles at play here to predict what was going to happen. awesome demo!
