My biggest advice for all young couples is, before you get married, try to have gone through a financial hardship, a major sickness or injury, a scenery change (we moved states) or some sort of other big life decision, like taking a job that will shift how you operate together. I think those things tested us well.

This is why we don’t do things because “that’s just what people do”. You don’t make decisions based on what your parents/peers/community would do. I think it’s crazy ppl really live this way. I questioned everything at a very young age.

I’d recommend going through the book “101 questions to ask before getting enagaged” by Norman Wright… you talk through so many things that you don’t even think about!! And if your partner is willing to sit and go through each and every question intentionally that’s a GREEN flag!

My sister is in the same boat. I think marrying young is the worst thing a person can do. I think it’s so important to live your life independently as mush as you can. Babies and marriage will come.

Marriage, to me, is a benefit for taxes and getting a house or renting. When I got married, nothing in our actual relationship changed because we’d known and lived with eachother for 6 years. We know everything about each other and I wish people would acknowledge that a successful relationship is, exactly as you stated, same ideals on finances, sex, kids, religion, in-laws, and general lifestyle.
