IMO - This is far too simplistic. These issues are multi-faceted. I don’t disagree that social media is very harmful, but until we can provide guardrails that protect privacy & address other harmful issues causing similar symptoms… processed & synthetic foods, environmental pollutants, carcinogenic materials - I don’t want to hear it. I don’t trust any policy that limits personal freedoms in the name of protecting children while ignoring intertwining issues.

I remember people saying the same thing about TVs. And then about computers. And then with game consoles. Im not saying he’s incorrect. Just suspicious that the newest technologies that come out and become affordable for the majority, this seems to always be what’s said.

I have offered my kids 1k if they wait until they are 18 before they make social media accounts. They watch it with their friends or over my shoulder, and Im fine with that. The comment section and Snapchat have been the 2 that are the scariest for me. We talk about what its already done to some of their friends. My kids are still learning that everything they send in a text message can be screenshot and sent to everyone, their brains can't comprehend what it could do on the internet.

There’s no incentive for kids to put the device down. Job losses, no access to college, kids don’t have a reason to try, and it’s getting worse.

No, not the daily show short videos because I have severe ADHD and I have a hard time watching the entire thing. I consider these higher quality videos because they’re deeper and you have to watch longer.

The only thing I struggle with when they start using test scores, especially in the United States. I’m not sure that that’s a good measurement. Our education system and the children in it have changed so much in the last 30 to 40 years. The jobs that are available now has changed. Society has changed. There’s a fundamental problem with our education system. So I struggle when they connect something like this to test scores.
