I don’t know about Eric Dayne but didn’t James Van Der Beek spend millions buying the range they were renting just before he passed away? It’s sad but many families have to move/downsize when a loved one passes. I’m not sure why we should be funding that.

Anyone can put up a go fund me… why did the public feel the need to donate, that’s my curiosity

No one is being forced to donate… so why does anyone care how others CHOOSE to spend their money?

Anyone can set up a go fund me so who ever donated to that made the decision and it’s not Eric Dane’s family’s fault

Also, Johnny Depp offered his house for Eric to live in in the last year of his life so clearly Eric was low on funds and didn't have access to the money from the billionaire

Healthcare in America is EXTREMELY expensive. He required full time, around the clock care. That costs hundreds of thousands if not millions of dollars. His wife might have access to funds now, but he probably was in debt that he didn’t want his daughters to inherit

I think the Go Fund Me is not for the public, it is for their friends. And ALS/MND research is the call for us as people who don't know him. Eric made it clear there would be a cure if there was just appropriate funding.

The SAG-AFTRA life insurance benefit is a $10,000 benefit, but there is also a lump sum pension for the beneficiary; if neither had a break in work credits for the 5 credit quarters required or other qualifications (were they both able to work enough for the pension limps sum (?): “younger than age 65 and have at least 5 Pension Credits without a Permanent Break in Service (or at least 8 Pension Credits including Pension Credits prior to a Permanent Break in Service), a Lump Sum Death Benefit is payable to your beneficiary. The amount of Death Benefit is equal to four times the annual Current Service Benefit earned at the time of death, but not less than $1,500” Eric was 53, James was 48. James did put a down payment on a ranch for his family before passing. I think that may have gone around some of the estate tax fees, having put the down pay on property in Texas but I have no idea for sure of that. Info on benefits is from the SAG AFTRA site.

I’m sorry. But neither Eric or James should have a go fund me. These are rich people, with wealthy estates. If they can’t manage their millions in a way that supports their families after their deaths, boo hoo. It’s harsh, but there are countless medium to low income families dealing with the same things and we make it work because we have to. And our go fund me’s get maybe a couple grand, not millions.

It’s just a bad look. The kids get his life insurance and residuals from the work he’s done. They’re trying to raise money so they can maintain a life that most of us will never have.

Wow if these famous and successful actors can’t leave enough behind for their families to get by, imagine how everyone else with “normal” jobs must struggle 😳. Surely these aren’t the families that need a go fund me

I find James Van Der Beak to be even worse considering they had 2 houses and bought their 2nd house a month prior for $4.8million and it was told as if the medical system made them broke when really he was using alternative “medicine” that insurance obviously wouldn’t cover

I’m beginning to wonder if these rich people (actors in this case) have decent financial advisors to tell them to get life insurance? What about pensions? They need better financial advisors.

YOU DONT HAVE TO DONATE! No one is being forced into handing over their money unwillingly. Everyone is very aware of the situations and still chooses to donate. Don’t agree with it? Easy answer, don’t do it.

I hope people just don’t donate if they are angry about it…If this billionaire loves them, it seems like he would do his best for Danes in whatever way for the sake of the kids. Danes wasn’t exactly making blockbuster movies, but he had to keep working to keep the insurance. I think the idea of money in liquid assets that a lot of actors make/have is misunderstood by the public. With that said, they would have had access to a lot more than most people, even if is just networking related to careers. It is reported that he had significant medical bills to the extent that he was living rent free with help of friends to try to offset the costs. The estate tax is also high in California when someone passes, right? Van Der Beek was reportedly worth the same (net worth) as Danes; he has 6 children though and he is also reported as having significant medical bills with a lack of residuals from Dawson’s it seems. **I am absolutely saying they had advantages that most people didn’t, like health insurance, access to specialist all over, and friends who have assets and likely helped.** The cost of living and estate tax are a significant factor to consider on top of income to cost of living + residual or none+ significant unpaid medical costs. It does seem like both would have met the requirements for the insurance but Van Der Beek had religious conflicts with medical treatments and alternative treatment aren’t covered; he had mix of both reportedly which is part of his significant bills. Danes would have qualified for it as well but it was also report that he had significant medical debt. “Gayheart described a ‘nightmare’ system where a representative told her, "You can keep applying, and I'll keep denying". James chose a mix which was part of the cost but it was for religious beliefs. Even with the best insurance the ancillary costs were big for both. That reminds me the system is broken for everyone. They can still be in massive debt due to illness and not be as rich as their net worth. Just my take on it (I am disabled & I’m not mad that they had more than me and were still overwhelmed with medical debt)

I don’t think people took issue with James trying alternative medicine. But if you forgo traditional treatment and decide to use alternative medicine for something that is treatable, insurance will not cover the costs once it’s too late. Not sure how it is in other countries.
