ONLY IF the total GVWR is over 26,001. 2006 f550 GVWR 17,800 with a 10,000 GVWR trailer. CDL is required. 2018 f250 GVWR 10,000 with a 14,000 dump trailer. No CDL needed. It is COMBINED GVWR. At least here in Florida.

A recreational use trailer rated more than 10,000 pounds a CDL is not required, as soon as you take a commercial vehicle and hook it up to any trailer rated more than 10,000 pounds and you are using it to make money a CDL is required

If your GCWR is over 26,001. If the GVWR of the truck and trailer together is over 26,001 then you need a CDL unless your trailers GVWR is under 10,001lbs. It’s about ratings, not your loaded weight.

In iowa you need a CDL if what your pulling has the capacity to haul grater than 10,000 lbs. say an empty trailer and a 3500 or grater company truck.
