@wildlens_wildlife_photo: Proof that camouflage isn't only for predators 🐦🇿🇦 Filmed in Pafuri during our stay at Return Africa, this African Green Pigeon (Treron calvus) was feeding high in a wild fig next to the Levuvhu River bridge. This species is a specialised frugivore, feeding primarily on figs and other soft fruits. Unlike many pigeons, it spends most of its time in the canopy, climbing through branches with strong feet and swallowing fruit whole. Riverine fig trees are especially important, often drawing these birds in when fruiting is at its peak. The African Green Pigeon is widespread across sub-Saharan Africa. In South Africa it is common in the Lowveld and along the eastern regions, but it will also occur in suburban areas — including parts of Johannesburg — when fruiting trees provide the right food source. A bird shaped by colour, diet, and the rhythm of fig seasons. #wildlensadventures #returnafrica #wildlife #wildlifephotography #birdwatching
