Since Iran is a major oil-producing nation and a key exporter to countries like China and India, concerns have grown over possible disruptions in global oil supply — especially through the strategic Strait of Hormuz. Because Nepal depends entirely on India for petroleum imports through the Indian Oil Corporation, many consumers feared that supply disruptions in the Middle East could eventually impact Nepal. This fear led to long queues at petrol pumps across Kathmandu Valley on Sunday morning, especially with continuous public holidays ahead. However, the Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) has clarified that there is no immediate fuel shortage in Nepal. According to spokesperson Manoj Thakur, the supply pipeline from India is operating 24/7, and fuel imports are happening as per regular demand. Nepal consumes around: 2,000–2,500 kiloliters of petrol daily Around 4,000 kiloliters of diesel daily Officials say Nepal’s annual fuel consumption equals just one day of India’s demand — meaning supply from India remains stable for now. To avoid safety risks and panic hoarding, NOC has instructed fuel stations not to sell petrol or diesel in jerry cans or bottles. The corporation has also deployed monitoring teams and requested the public not to stockpile fuel unnecessarily. Bottom line? 👉 Global tension is real. 👉 Oil prices have risen internationally. 👉 But Nepal’s fuel supply is currently safe and uninterrupted.
