1. anything mentioned in the Quran that happened before the time of prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, only applies to that time.... We cannot take the point that prophet Suleiman, peace be upon him, had statues to say statues are okay to have in Islam...... here's another example.. The people of the cave (ashabu al-kahf) ... when you read their story in chapter 18, they had a dog.. We cannot come today to say it's okay to have a dog as a Muslim... after the coming of prophet Muhammad peace be upon him the Islamic Sharia is established.. And all the can and cannot has been explained.. 2. You seem to think that we can only rely on the Quran for all the matters of our religion.. that is not correct.. Quran is complimented by the Sunnah of prophet Muhammad peace be upon him.. The Sunnah explains the why.. explains the how... and explains the who.... for example, in many different places in the Quran, Allah Almighty ask us to establish the prayer/ Salat... but there's nowhere in the Quran where it explains how many per day.. how many rakaats in every salat.. What breaks the salat ... who must start praying and who can have a break such as a woman in her period... The Sunnah of prophet Muhammad peace be upon him explains exactly how to pray and all the details... ... same goes to every single aspect of our religion such as fasting, zakat, Hajj, sadaqa, etc. and Allah (subhanahu wa ta'aala) knows best
