Because not everyone needs to be cardiac monitored. Hope this helps!

Literally what my non Tele monitor patients would see all night if they looked at the window to the hallway.

Tele is not necessary for everyone. If you’re checking on your patients like you’re supposed to you know what’s going on. Tele is already overused.

As a tele nurse, highly disagree. Can you imagine how many wasted batteries?! I already go through hundreds a week literally

ESPCIALLY if they’re receiving any IV meds or any type of med that has potential for CNS depression in any way. At minimum a constant pulse ox 😅

Hey :
Because putting everyone on a monitor would cost money. It’s a business

It’s uncomfortable for patients, it causes skin breakdown, it costs money, people don’t watch it, it’s unnecessary, I could go on and on. Not everyone is SICK. People are in the hospital for all sorts of reasons. MOST don’t need telemetry.

I completely agree with you as an ICU RN. all of my patients are on continuous monitors and I like it that way. That being said what I have heard is that if you were to put a patient on the floor with a tele monitor, it raises the acuity for that patient which requires more staffing. So I think it’s just to save money which is unacceptable.

that’s why i don’t judge the 7:30 am rapids… im sure these med surg nurse go in to lay eyes on the patient at COS and they’re just dead. if they’re not on a monitor how do we expect them to know, it’s not their fault!!!

My ICU educator was saying how a med surg nurse has spot on assessment skills cause we don’t have a monitor, all we do is rely on our assessments 😩

Cause every pt does not need tele. Continuous pulse ox is fine.

Vast majority of admits have little to no chance of actually medically decompensating - think your chronic foot wounds admit for podiatry, PNA, etc. Tele everywhere would be exorbitantly expensive for nowhere near enough benefit.

Tele can be extremely agitating to the MedSurg population. The ratios can be 5-6 on MS so why agitate our patients and create more useless tasks for the nurse. Theres no reason a 35 year old appy to get tele if there is no cardiac history

Honestly, as a nursing student during my med surg clinicals, I thought it was scary not being able to continuously monitor the pts. Especially 6 of them! Like u literally don’t know what could happen in between vitals, charting, etc.

Why would an ortho patient need a cardiac monitor?
