This opening scene was peak sci-fi cinema. 🌔 While filming the opening ambush in the Jordanian desert on October 25, 2022, the Dune: Part Two crew encountered an unexpected real partial solar eclipse, capturing about 35% of the sun obscured for over two hours. Cinematographer Greig Fraser had a splinter-unit operator capture the event in real time using a long lens, and that footage was later integrated into the film’s eclipse shots, with VF adding a second moon to match Arrakis’ lore.
