@mira_is_psyched: We will need to talk a lot about forgiveness in the future, so it might be a good idea to start now. #usa #psychology #liberal #liberalsoftiktok #2026
I appreciate this explanation. I feel like we've been overwhelmingly harmed by the Christian/religious concept of forgiveness that places the burden on the victim of harm, and the emphasis on exoneration and moving on rather than restitution and accountability by the perpetuator of the harm.

It’s not as if a teenager broke the rules by drinking and staying out past curfew. That trust can be repaired easily when the teenager shows they can be trusted again. In this case, people voted for someone who very clearly and in unmistakable words laid out what he would do from day one in the office. And time and time again they voted for that same person. Doing it once can be a lapse in judgment, doing it time and time again is willfully ignoring the facts and the harms. That trust isn’t repaired so easily. Those deliberate actions aren’t forgiven so easily. You can’t rob multiple banks and not be held accountable after because “you apologized and see the error of your ways.” You still have to do time and after that work, hard, to regain trust. I don’t see a difference with people who voted for Trump in all three elections. They will have to work incredibly hard before forgiveness and rebuilding trust is even on the table.

I’m struggling to forgive them because that group essentially took away half of my family and has actively harmed me since I was 8 years old. There’s not enough actually working towards forgiveness for me to want to forgive. Until they start putting their money where their mouth is, I don’t think I can forgive them.

Mira: This war is not over yet. We need those people. The question then is: how much forgiveness should we *appear* to be giving to people who supported monsters. I think the answer is more forgiveness than we want to give, more forgiveness than they deserve.

And those harms ripple FAR beyond US borders. Even the dismantling of USAID is unforgivable, let alone destabilising the world.

So well explained. Forgiveness is a personal choice. And I’m personally also not ready to forgive.

Thank you for putting this into words. I have a hard time believing any person who triple trumped has more good in them than hate. I don’t want that energy around me or my loved ones. We don’t feel safe around people like that

If you demand your victims to forgive you have not repented yet. Wanting to move on is one thing but opening your mouth about it is too self-centred

Forgiveness is over rated. We can exist together but we don’t have to socialize in private spaces. We have to move forward because we have a lot of work to do. We don’t have time to be free therapists

What I feel is curiosity, what do you mean by forgiveness? (I know you answer that later). Then I think forgiveness is not required to be a good person so I feel it’s very much a personal choice.

I will never forgive them, I've been watching how they move since the 60s...it's the same playbook. rather than do what was best for all, they did what was best for "them". so no, I will never ever ever forgive cuz harm reduction was never their plan and has never been their plan. look at where we are, look at how much harm has been to us in a year's time. talked to my son last night and I heard the fear and uncertainty in his voice.. something a mother never wants to hear. sooooooo, NO I WILL NEVER FORGIVE ANY OF THEM and will take it to my grave...I'll be waiting for them on the other side to whoop their ahs for all eternity.
