Hi! Pediatric SLP here. Early intervention is key, and it sounds like you’re already on the right track. I highly recommend focusing on foundational language skills first. Before children are able to verbalize, they need to understand language, engage socially, and communicate intentionally even if it’s not with vocalizations. Don’t get discouraged if you don’t hear words yet! I’d focus on modeling functional words (ex. Help, more, yes/no, all done, stop/go). This can be done with almost any household task or play activity. You’re doing great already and I’m positive you have wonderful SLPs on your team! But I’m open to any questions you might have 😊

Momma of 2 boys that had (oldest) and has (youngest but improving). Starting them early is the best you can do. All kids are diff and he will improve at his own pace. Patience and celebrate each milestone. All will be ok momma!

Hi! My daughter also speech delay and ofcourse we did early intervention. Once she turned 3 she aged out of the regional center however she is in school with other toddlers and honestly she has picked up so many words. Probably try to have him interact with other kids, mom groups, also we had her watch Ms. Rachel but we also sit with her, honestly I think the interaction with other toddler helped her my daughter is an only child so she is only surrounded by adults

Hi! 💕 My son had the same situation. Early intervention started at 8 months. Speech therapy begin at about 2 years at home and then he started at preschool with services at age 3. I know this is wild but I even taught him a little sign language and we found that helpful too. You are already doing everything right I promise ❤️he will do great, just needs a little extra time. Boys are also known to take a little longer. Sending love 🫶🏻

We went to early intervention, and really I don’t feel like they ever gave us different advice than what we already did. We narrated everything and read a lot. I think at 18 months he had like 6 words?? And one day it just started exploding. Like several new words a day. Now he’s 2.5 and has been fully caught up for a few months! Idk what changed or what clicked but I genuinely don’t think speech therapy is what helped for us. Our 1 year old doesn’t have any words still and can only clap but I feel less stressed this time?? I feel like it’ll click in a few months like it did for him

Hey Abby! Rowan is still speech delayed but he’s made so much progress with ST and OT. I really work on providing as much opportunity for him to communicate with me. Like asking him to show me what he wants or providing 2 options to pick from. Keep reading and narrating your day to him.

Sounds like what you’re doing is great! We did early intervention for a year and our toddler is now in typical range for speech! We narrated the day, lots of books, we would sing songs she knows and and stop singing at some points so she could “fill in blanks” and we would repeat words over and over during activities.

Hi! My toddler is speech delayed. He’s 27 months now and we’re just now gaining words. We started speech therapy at 15 months old and early intervention around 19 months old. Just keep narrating everything. Our SLP is great and will give us stuff to work on. Make sure you ask what they recommend at home and ask for

I paid speech eval/appointments for almost 1 year with my little income. I applied for TEFRA Medicaid I’m over income for regular Medicaid so this is based on just her diagnosis. She dos private speech and private occupational. Also look into child find for your kids school district.

My son is speech delayed, when he started ece at the age of 4 they started him with an IEP and he did speech therapy I also have a speech therapist that comes to my house once a week. he's now in 1st grade and does still does speech therapy and he is doing so much better. it takes time but it gets better ❤️💙

Be active and learn the tips they give you. I feel like speech therapy is for the parents😅. My 3 year old is thriving now
