@sravantea: Replying to @listens to live Do you think intra-caste marriage ruined Indian genetics? Harvard disagrees. There's a fascinating history behind the history of caste specific genetics and how that manifests today. As always, I want your thoughts, and a gentle reminder that I am not a geneticist, I just find this type of thing interesting :) #genetics #endogamy #castesystem #indian #southasian
Proves that it wasn’t a British invention as some people claim

Can people tell somebody’s caste just by looking at them? Can people start a new life elsewhere in India in a different case than they were born with?

I’m also fascinated, as a Bengali on how this has affected other religious groups, the fascinating history of Mughal, Persian, Turkic, Arab influences on the Muslim population because often they were people who did not benefit from the caste system who converted. It’s a fascinating fascinating history in South Asia. I’m also obsessed as a doctor with how colonialism resulted in famines and policies that now have severe epigenetic effects on the health of modern South Asians. Keep going, this is cool!

What genetic disorders are common in these groups? Being in the southeast US we’re taught about genetic screenings for sickle cell or hemochromatosis but we arent taught about a lot of other population genetics to be prepared for. This is fascinating to hear out.

You mentioned Finland, but it’s just one country that is homogenous. Not on purpose like the caste.

one clarification. Caste system was never meant to be hereditary. Caste system existed far before the gene mixing stopped.

ANI and ASI are outdated terms from David reichs older papers which suffer from extreme simplification . Please refer to newer papers which use the distinction off AASI Indusfarmer/IVC/Steppe.

Genetics comes after. The Varnas are, (well were)about the Spirit, the spiritual evolution of the souls. We've a body and a mind but we're not both. We are an electromagnetical Entity called Soul, we're energy. The energy cannot be made or destroyed :we're immortals
