@meghannmcuniff: Jurors in Kouri Richins' murder trial heard today that she told a friend she was unhappy with her marriage to Eric Richins. Allison Wright met Eric when she was in middle school, and she also knew he and Kouri through her job at CNE Stone Masonry, which her husband and Eric owned together. She testified today (Monday, March 2, day 6) about checks the couple bounced at the business. She was going to also testify Kouri telling her about her unhappy marriage during a vacation in 2019, but Judge Richard Mrazik in Utah's 3rd Judicial District first heard her testify outside the jury's presence to decide if her testimony should be allowed. He decided it was, and Wright testified in front of the jury that she and her husband vacationed with the Richins in 2019 and "Kouri and I were finally in a position where our husbands were no longer with us. We were just discussing life." "Kouri opened up and shared that the things were difficult at home. A word I remember is that she felt trapped at this time," Wright testified. Wright said she "learned that their marriage had a prenuptial agreement, and she explained that she felt like she was frustrated in the relationship, but also it would be difficult to leave. Eric would end up financially secure and her the opposite." "She feared what would happen in a divorce. She mentioned that maybe the kids would prefer him with the lifestyle that they had, four-wheelers and toys and opportunities where she would have less. She feared how she would be represented by him in the community," Wright testified. Wright said she "felt for her." "It was a hard conversation. I knew that things had been hard since their youngest child was born and I was tender towards her current circumstance," Wright said. Asked about Richins' business situation, Wright said, "Kouri is super ambitious." "She went back to school and got a master's degree. I was impressed. I had young kids. I wasn't sure I could do that. She then went and got a real estate license and was trying to build that business.
