Glad you made this post. You are absolutely correct - on so many levels. The West still does not want to admit and acknowledge : China is succeeding because the government has figured out that when you invest properly in people, healthcare, education and infrastructure you advance your society. The cost: when people have food, shelter and dignity, innovation flourishes. It is literally that simple. China just wants to look after it's people and trade. Mess with them at your own peril.
