In my experience, the last things you forget about dreams are emotions or sensations, which is what makes this kind of dream so affecting. The song wasn’t inspired by any actual dreams I’d had, but instead by a romance-adjacent book I’d just finished that had a comparable effect by pulling me into an imaginary world with a love story that couldn’t exist beyond the final page. The first stanza of the song uses poetic, almost surrealist language because that is the section in which the dream is occurring. Similarly, the orchestration cuts back significantly once the singer wakes up. I was hoping to write something happy or encouraging this month but instead I wrote something weirdly melancholic. Oops. 🤷‍♂️

The whole dream would be him taking me to see so many things in his world, excitedly explaining all the things i missed since the last time.
