@justagirlwithcancer: I had no idea about this until recently. If you wear a breast cancer bracelet or any cancer support bracelet, medical staff may ask if you’ve had lymph nodes removed on that side before taking blood pressure or drawing blood. That’s because once lymph nodes are removed, blood draws and blood pressure cuffs should not be done on that arm. I didn’t know this at all, so sharing in case it helps someone else avoid complications or unnecessary risk. Did you know this? #agoodcancerjourney #breastcancer #lymphnodes #breastcancerbracelet
I was told that this was not true by my nurses when I was going through chemo.

Renée :
I think it depends on how many you have removed. I had three taken on the left where my cancer was and one taken on the right and my surgeon said that they could take blood pressure or blood on either side.

I have never heard that. I had one lymph node removed and I definitely have had blood pressure taken on that arm.

Partially true. I had 14 removed but was told after a year you can “return to normal” regarding blood draws. It’s been 24 years and i can do it from both sides

Except when you’ve had them taken from both sides. Then, at least for me, they use the side that was removed first. My first was in 2010, so they use that.

I wasn't told that until I went to have my port placed by the nurse at the hospital. They even put my blood pressure cuff on my left side at the hospital after my double mastectomy and lymph node biopsy surgery so I was shocked to learn that news since the people who did my surgery were using my left side.
