@jensheitmann_: Start creating hand off documents instead of using /compact & it will change how you use Claude code for the better. #claudecode #claude #aitools #context
Every project I have has a ProjectTracking.md SessionLog.md NextSession.md and a Decisions.md I have a slash command that updates each individually or /done to update all. I do it at 30% context left so I always have the best part of the contexts.

It would be cool to get a notification like “hey now is a good time to create a context file of everything discussed in this chat and go ahead and create a new chat”

On the desktop app you don’t see when you’re running out of context. How do you get around that?

A handoff document is one part of my housekeeping skill. (Others are lessons leanrt, session log and plan review and update)

I didnt know about this until i told claude, i wanna go to bed and my context is almost full. And claude suggested to create that hand off document so i can keep my beauty sleep schedule and ready for the next new session.

This is essential because they just grind to a halt. it also happens in ChatGPT so having a smooth mechanic like you mentioned is key. it just means you end up having lots of conversation windows in one project so what I end up doing is like just prefix the active one with the word active so it’s easier to find

I’ve been doing this with Cursor and Windsurf for some time. Massively helps with consistency.

Yes. This is absolutely the way… I’ve been trying working with the instructions in a project as well… …. How to make this a skill is apparently my next step.

This is interesting but the way you explained it made me understand how it works but not how to implement it, can you please help with a guide on how to implement this?
