safe storage has zero to do with situations like this. situations would like this come from the parents not allowing the children to understand the dangers and what the finality of a firearm can have. they did not raise their children right. So charge them for child endangerment, but do not include the words proper or safe storage. because kids can get a key or combination or any plethora of other things almost as easily. that being said as well. You never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever have a loaded firearm accessible to children. So I guess there is some truth in safe storage. but as soon as you tell a child not to do something and try to hide it from them. they will by nature, try to do it. So although I can agree but disagree with the whole assessment at the same time. You should absolutely have weapons out but only teach the children proper safety and again the finality of accidents. It's the ammunition, the magazines, etc, that should never be easily accessed at the same time. This way if the child ever does touch a weapon, first there's no danger and you give them heavy heavy consequences for doing it. but this is just my opinion. I'm sure many will disagree. frankly I don't give a s***. every generation prior to this one had these sitting around etc. It is only recently as leftists and Democrats become more prominent in their rhetoric and their backwards thinking of do not correct or teach children properly that is is gone sideways. a final story to complete or at least give a better picture of what I'm saying. I will always take a high-powered weapon, take the kids hunting with me for small game, either bird or rabbit depending on the caliber weapon. And show them what a bullet will do to flesh. This integrates the finality part, the brutality of it and the consequences that can never be taken back when an accident happens. for instance a 7 mag to a jackrabbit. a 243 to a dove, pigeon, quail, pheasant. It is the extreme, because there's not much left but feathers or hair. but that's the point
