this place was too pretentious for me...... they opened a new outlet near me that's only open on weekends, no takeaways, told me to wait 40 min and the seats are uncomfy af. i love filter coffee but the pretentiousness ruins whatever experience they're trying to curate!

I feel like for coffee people usually judge on filtered coffee rather than anything else. Kind of like a wine tasting. The moment it’s mixed with milk and stuff it’s out of the judging criteria?

apartment specialises in filter coffee but if you want somewhere with solid lattes/ iced blacks nylon and bullock cart are worth a try

@Spoknotspock: I think the coffees on offer here are amazing as someone who frequents the cafe since they started at lavender. Amazing roast profiles and overall clean flavours. Similar to wine, I think the coffee world has come to the point where like a lot of other points of the food industry being able to know and tell apart the nuances of the product is how you would get 100% of the experience here. I know that sounds pretentious but I think that is a reason apartment stands apart from other cafes in Singapore. They are like the hawker selling one dish. And making sure they do that one dish well. Apartment’s focus on drinks is humbling to me. I find it hard to not choose their coffee while I’m there but I also find their other offerings amazing. My partner and I would often share a kombucha/hot chocolate along with our coffees.

Cafes like Apartment coffee are also known for speciality filter coffee. but filter coffee is kind of a "if you're into it, you're into it" kind of thing it's the equivalent of going to somewhere hard to book cocktail bars like Atlas or Jigger and Pony. yeah the cocktails are good! but the trouble of booking way in advance etc is kind of a pain

Aiya, it's all social media hype nowadays. Sometimes a lot of sound and fury but no rain. Being disappointed by all the "top" and "best" often enough to know just not to bother anymore if the qeue is longer than 5 min 😂

They judged the top 100 based on these criteria: coffee quality, barista expertise, customer service, innovation, ambiance, sustainability, food/pastry quality, consistency, and community impact. 70% by judge and 30% by public. In other words, being top 6th in the world does not mean that the coffee is best in Singapore (whether filter or milk), but due to many other factors including marketing reach, branding and how impressionable the public is. There are honestly better coffee shops/cafes in Singapore
