There are direct flights available for sure! SQ for example flies directly into Fukuoka in less than 7 hours I think, for parents who are considering a similar trip. But at the time I booked the flight tickets were almost double of what I got with CE, so amongst all the other connecting flight options, I felt CE was the most economical yet manageable timing wise hence I went with that.
