@thewealthdept: For the first 6 years of my working life, I didn’t have a 6-figure salary. I built $300K in liquid assets on a five-figure income. (prior to 2020, I had some savings accumulated through my internships and some of my allowance) It wasn’t by buying crypto, winning the lottery or getting some inheritance. I just did 3 things consistently for 6 years: 1️⃣ lived frugally: aggressive savings rate of >80%, no lifestyle creep, saved all my bonus 2️⃣ grew my income slowly but steadily: getting an increment each year (although nothing fancy) 3️⃣ passive income & investing: after building a sizeable base, just leaving money in the bank earned me good interest (especially during the 2022/2023/2024 high interest years). I didn’t start investing seriously until 2024/2025, and that’s one of my regrets. To be clear, having a high income is great, but it’s also not that easy to achieve. The best part about reaching this milestone largely through frugality is that every dollar I’ve saved now stretches further. Because I’ve trained myself to live well on less, my assets can sustain my lifestyle for much longer without sacrificing happiness.
