It’s very suspicious when the same ppl who encourage women to be stay-at-home wives also oppose measures (alimony, prenups) to make that safer.

ANDDD if you’re a stay at home wife, you should have savings, AND 20% of his income should go into an account that he can not touch so that you’re covered if he decides to divorce you. Too many women get divorced with no warning, and lose their house / only source of income (him.) if he can’t afford to do that / refuses to do that then you can’t afford to be financially reliant on him!!!

Also… divorce isn’t the only factor playing into making sure your resume and network is fresh and having some amount of up to date work experience. As terrible as it is, a childhood friend’s dad died suddenly on vacation and her mom who was a SAHM suddenly had to provide for three kids with no recent work experience.

Coming from a SAHM and wife for four years, DON’T DO IT! And don’t let ANYONE tell you that you need to give up your life to be home and raise the family. You can’t pour from an empty cup and they WILL hold money over your head whenever they want to.

My grandmother was a housewife and SAHM. But she told me early on she was lucky. My grandparents loved and respected each other until they died shortly after one another. I heard terrible stories and they gave their entire inheritance after my grandpa's dad died to their daughters so they could have a financial safety net.

If he loves you he wants you to be financially safe. If he loves you he loves your mind and want you to further your education. A husband who doesn't want you to grow in your career is a master, not a partner.

My mom is highly educated and stayed at home for probably 25 years, at which point she ran for local office which is a part time job for her position. She had her own assets prior to marriage and her and my dad have a very healthy relationship. She still warns me all the time not to do what she did, just because it worked out for her doesn’t mean it will for me!

Even the exception women I’ve seen who acknowledge that they’ve lived a soft life and still love their husband deeply still have horror stories of friends and don’t recommend it.
