Her first doctor that ordered the stat mammogram seems to be one of the last medical professionals to actually hear her. It’s one thing to have a medical concern as a patient. It gets real scary when your doctor not only shares that medical concern, but is more concerned than you. It feels like time kinda slows down for awhile.

Imagine a woman’s journey with similar symptoms that didn’t have the knowledge. It’s so sad. I’m glad she had a good outcome but I’m concerned for women that don’t have the knowledge or resources to advocate for themselves.

This is the first time I've ever heard anyone talking about the same thing I went through in 2008. During a self exam I found the same black discharge from my nipple. It was old blood, thus the reason it was black. Fortunately, I was able to have a ductectomy and everythign turned out to me ok, thank goodness. but getting any traction in women's health is a burdensome endeavor and completely enraging!

As the director of a women's imaging center, 4-6 weeks for a diagnostic mammogram is absolutly unexceptable! I am proud that we are one of the last few facilities that actually keeps blocks in our schedule for STAT womens imaging. Not only is early diagnosis imperative, the mental toll it takes on someone to wait 4-6 weeks with an active problem is debilitating. Thank you for sharing this story!

Duct ectasia, or dilated milk duct. Common at the beginning/end of lactation or in peri/menopause. IBCLC here! I called it from the very beginning when she was describing her symptoms. No asks us lactation consultants. lol. We see weird stuff all the time that no one else knows about often times!

😭😭 This is so validating. I had the same experience with black discharge and the doc acted like I was crazy and doing it to myself. Legit doc huffed a laugh in my appointment and said I just have had trauma to the area and just not remembered. Why are they like this?!?
