@neil_poynter: This isn’t my normal content on here but it is what I do for a living! I believe that if you get the people writing an organisation then successful will come. If you don’t care about your people, you will ultimately fail because they won’t be there when you need them to be, and they won’t be there to solve the problems that you don’t spot. There you go, a brief insight into what I do when I’m not posting about being single! LOL #business #morale #leadership

I spent most of my career in HR, with a special interest in engagement. When the chips are down and a business needs people to go the extra mile, you’re either withdrawing from the bank of goodwill you laid down in the past or people will drag their feet because they don’t feel they owe the business anything. Engagement doesn’t come from the money you earn or the benefits you get, those become normalised pretty quickly. It’s how valued you feel in your company and how much you feel recognised for your contributions.

Being involved in human recourses and business psychology all my life, it is shocking people in today’s age think staff morale is not needed. Oh my hat…. Staff morale dictates productivity, retention, and business profitability. Every business who aspires ensure their staff are motivated, engaged and who are proud of their work which results in excellent performance, lower staff turnover, and improved customer service. I feel sorry for the individual who said this ~ they certainly will not thrive.

also worked in a care home for a very short time, I have never felt so undervalued and used (the manager did not give a flying duck)

I’ve always treated others as I’d like to be treated myself. That goes for the CEO to the cleaner. On the shoulders of others are those at the top and we never forget it. People have ‘off’ days, but the door is always open … happy team = living the dream and excellent patient care.💕

I ran a business for over 20 years and really tried to create a nurturing and supportive environment. We didn’t really have a hierarchy and everyone’s opinion mattered whatever their role. We had good staff retention but anyone who left remained on good terms with us. Your staff are your greatest assets, treat them badly at your peril!

This might not be relevant at all. I don’t hold a huge important post. I teach swimming at a private school, mostly to the little ones. I’m an old girl, 65…. I started this job, and gained the relevant qualifications after I was widowed. I’ve finally found ‘my place’. I’m the ‘work Mum’ and I love it. The young teachers and life guards are so lovely to work with. They boost my morale every day. I’d have really struggled if I didn’t have this fab job. Sorry, that was a bit long.

The manager must role model the behaviours that are acceptable. True leadership aspires the team to achieve the best results. If you dont care then neither will your team its as simple as that.

I work in a&e, and I have a great support network, and my management will go above and beyond, we socialise, myself and my colleagues are more like family, we all have each others backs, but many bosses are being got at by those above, some get a hard front, disgusting, I would be out of there, you get good team members you have a great job
