That is actually crazy. ☹️I pray you can find a better school without those crazy expectations. Not sure if it’s in all NYC schools but here in the Los Angeles district we aren’t expected to do any of that.

I hear you girl! I got switched from 4th to 1st grade. What we do as teachers is truly a passion. No one but a teacher truly knows what goes into this career. No one can truly appreciate a teacher until they serve as one and understand fully what was done for them by their teachers because No one is Anyone without a Teacher, first. We all learn from someone, period.

It's so stressful when you are requested to substitute another teacher at last minute and you hadn't taught that class before. One thing that helps us is standardized materials and teaching schedules. I used to accept any kind of substitution when I started teaching, now I ask to be told 2 days in advance and materials to cover the class and every single detail about the class. I find it useful and my level of anxiety has reduced a lot. I do the same if I need someone to replace me. I get the materials a week in advance if possible.
