Not to mention that you run the risk of coming across one of those insufferable types who immediately assumes the worst about you just because a show you like is problematic. Like, yeah sure, the inclusion of certain contentious details is completely unnecessary and is enough to cause an affront,… but that doesn’t mean I like it BECAUSE of the controversial additions. I swear to God, these people have never had a complex thought in their life, they’ve never heard of the word “multifaceted”. It’s completely unrealistic to expect them to know that they can separate the art from the artist too. And what kind of impact do they even expect to have on a successful creator anyway? Even if you abstain from consuming a specific piece of media, a lot of others will continue to indulge in it regardless. You aren’t “punishing” the creator. The creator doesn’t even know you! Plus, I believe it isn’t my place to chastise people who propagate stereotypes, hurtful ideologies or anything of the sort when karma literally exists for this reason (at least in my belief system this is the case).
