@nepalinreel: Police in Chitwan have detained TikToker and YouTuber Ratan Karki for allegedly posting election-related promotional videos during the legally mandated silence period. According to DSP Rabindra Khanal, Information Officer at the District Police Office Chitwan, Karki was called in for questioning after reports surfaced that he had shared videos promoting candidates from various political parties during the restricted period before voting. Under Nepal’s election laws, the silence period prohibits any form of campaign promotion — including on social media platforms. Police stated that Karki was contacted and asked to appear at the office for inquiry after authorities received information about the posts. Ratan Karki, who had been living in Japan, recently returned to Nepal and had been actively creating election-related content on TikTok, Facebook, and other social media platforms. The incident highlights growing scrutiny of digital influencers and content creators during elections, especially regarding compliance with campaign regulations in the age of viral content.
