“Social and physical pain are on the same pathway.” Me, an autistic person: yep, I am aware.

This feels like a very parallel path to the “Tylenol in pregnancy causes autism” theory 😑

Maybe psychology and medicine should actually collaborate more instead of acting like they are entirely separate…

Wait, does this mean I could just take a bunch of painkillers and then be able to watch handmaid’s Tale?

Is this why older people (who tend to take Tylenol regularly due to arthritis) are more conservative? Less open to social programs?

Ever since I read about this I’ve wondered if they’ve tried to reverse this effect, using those same pathways to INCREASE empathy. As a way to treat things like antisocial personality disorder where low empathy plays a role.

I used to try to use this to my advantage by taking Tylenol before having conversations I didn’t want to have lol

I read an article once talking about Tylenol helping with feeling the heartache of a broken heart. I can say, after my divorce, I believe it got me through many a work day.

My grandpa was a WWII vet, he told me one time he couldn't take Tylenol because it always gave him really bad war dreams. Not saying this is necessarily related, but I always wondered why that would be...and this is the -closest- I've gotten to hearing a scientific explanation for Tylenol affecting his PTSD

I need someone to tell me why I can almost feel physical and emotional pain of others when I see it, but also I can turn that off and go numb for emotional pain (physical is harder to turn off) if things are chaotic and I don’t have the time to cry.
