@abbyrodmanpsychotherapy: The scenes in Love Story may or may not accurately reflect the real life relationship of JFK, Jr. and Carolyn Bessette Kennedy. But, from a clinical perspective, they are stunning in their portrayal of narcissistic behavior. Narcissists may enjoy your embarrassment and humiliation for a variety of reasons including: 1) It boosts their fragile egos. If you look small, they feel bigger, 2) It gives them a sense of control, and 3) It distracts from their own vulnerabilities. And, of course, their basic lack of empathy which prohibits them from feeling and recognizing your discomfort. #narcissism #lovestory #narcissist #fyp

My take - he was diagnosed with ADHD as well as dyslexia. As a mother of two sons with ADHD, I can tell you that they often make assumptions that people just “know” how things are so they don’t take the time to explain or provide details to prepare someone else in advance because they are barely keeping themselves together with lacking executive functioning skills. He was also known for being late often and this was touched on in the series when he was late for their first date and Carolyn made it clear that wasn’t acceptable. W my sons, I can make sure they wake up an hour earlier and there’s still going to be chaos and them not leaving the house until the very last possible moment, not at all accounting for if there will be traffic or some unplanned obstacle. Doesn’t mean they are narcissistic (which by the way is a term WAY overused on social media and in reality actually impacts a very small segment of the population and can only be diagnosed by a mental health professional.) One could definitely argue he had an avoidance attachment style but again, that doesn’t mean he was narcissistic.

The scarf in the same scene got me. There was no need for Ethel to be such a B over Carolyns scarf.

He was reckless, and exhibited signs of ADHD. I don't think he was a narcissist.

Exhibit 4: In his ex-girlfriend’s Christina Haag’s book “Come to the Edge- a Love Story” she tells the story of what he put her through kayaking one day in rough waters. No concern for her (she had a brace on her leg) and he nearly killed her. When she told him that he said “What a way to go!”

My friend was JFK,Jr. flight instructor and had to terminate the relationship as he wouldn’t take the instruction as given. Jeff had to terminate the instruction to keep his instructor status. He never should have flown that flight that night. He was unqualified for that type of flying.

Hear me out. That’s seems really mean, evil. I don’t want to think that anyone could be that mean. Could he have been so entitled m spoiled, clueless, that it didn’t occur to him of what he was doing? After all he did come from an extremely wealthy generational family. Couldbe he was brought up that way. That’s just how that family , he was raised in that disfunction? Just genuinely curious. Like you said, we don’t know any Kennedy.
