This is untrue. the Waterloo Bridge was not completed on its original schedule. Construction began in 1937 but was severely delayed by the outbreak of World War II, as most male workers were conscripted and materials were diverted. It was partially opened in 1942 but not fully completed until 1945., it earned the nickname "The Ladies' Bridge" because up to 65% of the workforce that kept the project going during the war were women.
