The problem will be. Right now AI music is untraceable. So if you write a guitar part, use AI to add drums, bass, then you take it back into your DAW and sing over it. The lines of copyright are blurred over and over, but also the trace of AI is undetectable. Therefore, AI becomes a tool. Almost like it’s undetectable midi drums or midi cello on a song.

First of all, what is "AI music"? I create everything from scratch in my DAW, write my lyrics, then import the stems into Suno and add the vocals and finishing touches. Is that still "AI music"?

Does this mean all AI music is a library of royalty free samples?

So if you write the lyrics and then have ai record it as a song could you still copyright the lyrics?

I wrote a song yesterday. I picked my pocket book of lyrics then picked up my acoustic guitar and spent the next 3 hours creating a song 🎵

Could you not just re-record the ai parts with session musicians and not have to deal with that?

There’s a difference between a trademark and a copyright.

Musician and songwriter for 20 years here. Started messing around with Ai maybe maybe a year ago, got some really interesting results. Literally in mastering right now, we'll probably spend thousands getting this album right. Am I mad that I can't copywrite it? Not in the least. Have at it, general public. Corporations mad they can OWN music doesn't sound like a bad thing to me, and I feel it would be very difficult to convince me otherwise

What if you take an ai song and redo it all with humans, how would anyone know?

I don’t know about other forms of art, but with music I’m positive real musicians and producers will always outpace AI in terms of of creativity. Especially if, god willing, we actually regulated AI to not be able to scrape new music or some genius comes up with a non-destructive way to poison pill music so AI can’t scrape it.

I have a buddy as a buyer for Sync for a big company. They refused to use any music from AI for the last few years. This definitely solidifies that ideal and keeps the door open for real artists and musicians

I wonder where the line is for human contribution? If you eq, or eliminate one note does that constitutes? Remember the sampling battles of the 80s? Seems like same battle all over again.

Wrong. The whole song can be protected if the artist can show that a substantial amount of the song was created by a human. The copyright process does not split the song apart and give each part separate protection. I know this for certain as I have protected AI assisted music in both the U.S. and Canada.
