FACTS! This is how I feel when people criticize my Miami accent. Like I’m so sorry but this is where I grew up what do you want me to do about it?

There is a link to language and linguistics and you have that gift! You’re a very intelligent and artistic woman. I’m so proud that you get to represent many of us that are Mexican! Unfortunately, it will rub the wrong way to ignorant and naive people.

Truly this is so infuriating as a 100% Latina. I’m half Mexican and Puerto Rican and was born here. My dad came here when he was 4 years old and when people say oh you don’t sound hispanic. I’m sorry what should a Hispanic sound like… I grew up with white people what do you expect.

The vernacular we picked up as children of parents who don’t speak English was a survivor tactic. An assimilation thing we developed early on as kids because we were the outsider in these neighborhoods. I see you 10000%

I grew up in the suburbs of Chicago and I started taking Spanish classes starting in 5th grade- I’m so glad I did because this white girl now speaks Spanish!! Helped a lot when I lived in AZ and when I would go to Mexico all the time. Do you and ignore all of these obnoxious people who feel the need to tell their opinions to everyone!! Btw I love the same music too!!

If i had a dollar for every time someone said i was trying to be white, id be a millionaire. And as a young kid I didn’t even know what white meant. People were just people. I’m 100% Mexican too but I guess we’re supposed speak like the stereotype and have an apron on and a trensa to prove we are who we say we are 🙄
