Also, we did acupuncture on our paralyzed dachshund with IVDD and she regained full use of her legs. I highly doubt this was a placebo effect

It’s pseudo-science just like chiropractics. The backbone of science is repeatable experiments with the same repeatable results. Acupuncture and chiropractics are not based in science.

i think the people in these comments severely underestimate the power of the placebo effect. it doesn’t just make you feel better, but it can also make it feel like physical symptoms go away for a short while.

Everytime I went in for acupuncture, it required me to sit there for 20 minutes in silence , calming laying down in a relaxing environment. Perhaps just the act of resting like that is what is contributing to people saying it works.

I got certified in crystal therapy, and when I finished the course, I realized the same thing. I was so embarrassed for ever believing in it because I thought there was always more to it. But when I realized there wasn’t, I was like…this is fake.

Had it for a frozen shoulder and it worked for me. I couldn't care less why or how. I'm not in pain and can wash my hair myself again🤷♀️

I could rattle on about this for ages. Who’s doing the study ? Is the person administering the acupuncture even trained ? Are they just a university scientist or in private practice? How do they blind the practitioner in the study ? Was the study conducted/ funded by a vested interest ? I can assure you , ask the client base of an acupuncturist of their results , you will find them overwhelmingly positive. Can’t all be ‘placebo’

But if a placebo effect works, as in it actually heals you, then it has an effect. Your brain is a wonderful thing. Who cares what actually works. If using acupuncture for let’s say infertility, and the woman gets pregnant, who cares if it was just a placebo effect. It worked right? She got pregnant!

A lot of professions don't provide any actual material benefits aside from positive human connection and the feeling that you are working on fixing the problem and will go away soon(anxiety relief). And the same could be said for religion, will we fight to eradicate it? Ofc not
