Reactive dogs aren’t something you truly understand until you spend a lot of time with one or have one. The most heartbreaking part that I didn’t understand until our dogs final moments was how hard it was on her too! 😭💔 she was so full of love, energy, and playfulness when she was managed well! She was truly the best dog I have ever had! But she wasn’t ever at peace until her last moments.

Have you tried redirecting her? 😂 Yeah, I’m glad you suggested that, I’d never have considered. 🙄 Meanwhile I’m fighting for my life to hang onto her and hoping they just go away. Hahahaha!

Thank you! The struggle is real. After working with several trainers who said they “fixed” him, I finally found a trainer that told me it can’t be fixed, we just have to find ways to manage it. She helped me find ways to recognize body language and what I need to do to help him.

A reactive dog definitely isn’t for the weak 🤣 We worked on it for about three years and got to a really good place where I could mark, reward, and move away from triggers. Then… she was diagnosed with diabetes. Since then we’ve seen about a tenfold regression. She’s more irritable and less tolerant, which honestly makes sense with her blood sugar fluctuating. We’re working through it though. 💛

Omg exactly. My Great Dane is so reactive now she will bark and try to put it in simpler words eat every dog and person she sees on our walk and people tell me to just shock her with an e collar every time she barks like what!???

My girl has such a problem with other dogs and even some kids/smaller adults which terrifies me😭😭 the energy in our household seriously effects how she behaves around my two cats and learning how to mix her training into making sure I’m also redirecting asshole cats away from her while she’s doin her damn best sucks so bad💀 at one point i just stopped doing commands and if i saw anything coming (i always do from a mile away) I immediately just went to pick up the cat for a couple weeks because after we moved it basically reset everything💀😭😭

My dog was extremely reactive on leash when she saw other dogs. I’ve been training her for about 6 months. She’s finally got the hang of it. And yes I agree, it’s not something that you can completely get rid of but you can manage it. And yes it takes time!

Is yours aggressive? Mine is very reactive and dog aggressive. No matter how much training it’s a never ending process.. I’m taking him to a board and train to see if that can help. I think I’m too soft with him. What is the number one thing that has helped?
