both cbow and eoe have an explosion at the end of the crit. if you parry the crit point blank it'll cancel the normal hits but still proc the explosion, since the normal hits are canceled, you don't get enough ap frames for the explosion, so you have to either block, parry, or dodge the explosion manually.
