@maddyb.phd: As I begin writing my study in a format to be submitted to a scientific journal, I’m asking myself these questions to help frame the narrative of my study and clearly define how I’m filling in knowledge gaps in my field! Although I’m just getting started here are some tips to share: 1. Begin writing a basic bullet point outline of what your figures show 2. Get words on the page-write your materials and methods first 3. Piece together your story by stating what is known, how your data adds to the conversation, and how your findings push the field forward 4. Organize everything with clear file names 5. Keep multiple drafts of things when you start to heavily edit 6. Create a separate shareable library of references dedicated to the paper (I use zotero) 7. Think about what you want scientists to say about your paper when they casually bring it up. What do you want them to say and take away? #phd #womeninstem #writing #Science #research

Love this! Before getting into academia I had no idea that scientific papers told a story, not just explain data.
