@letsbetechs: This is one we really need an answer to. Why do we at the technician level get held to different standards than manufacturers? I think we should make some noise! #a3 #r290 #hvac #refrigerationtech, #hvaclife
Tech support/warranty for a certain reach in brand a couple weeks ago told me that it’s a “don’t ask don’t tell” kind of thing. That he didn’t really care whether braze in taps get left on or not.

I’ve “heard” my old boss just left the port on the system and moved on with life.

Not specifically talking about flammable refrigerants but on all my repairs i throw out those brass caps with the O-rings, I use nylog, hex head flare caps and tighten them down with two small wrenches. That setup is good for about 700 psi, I'm sure it would also work on flammable refrigerant.

I crimp it back. And when we run out of spots to crimp because of repairing thin copper. Then it's new compressor time.

I heard they get left on. I hear customers don't like the additional cost to add ports to diagnose refrigerant issues every single time 😬

I also like how they make a discharge loop that sits in water constantly.
