🧠 Understanding the narcissistic gaslighter👇 Narcissist people use gaslighting as a way to gain power and control over people and as a way to avoid accountability. It is a form of manipulation which can be very destabilising if you are not aware you’re being gaslighted. Even when you are it can take a lot of emotional regulation to not react. Gaslighting has two parts: Part 1️⃣ is when someone denies your reality or something you know happened- like them taking credit for your work and denying they did. Part 2️⃣ is when they then turn things around onto you and make you feel like there’s something wrong with you for raising the issue. They will say things like you’re too sensitive or you’re overreacting. Both of these tactics combined can make you question yourself and your own judgement or recollection of things. This is what a narcissistic gaslighter wants as this is how they avoid accountability and get away with their behaviours. Your instinctive reaction will be to defend yourself and fight back. This will play into their hands. Instead do the following: ✅ Stay calm and resist the urge to fight back. Pause and take a deep breath ✅ Don’t argue instead use phrases to close down the conversation. For example: “We seem to remember things differently” “I’m not going to argue with you. We have a different recollection of things so let’s leave it there”. ✅ Remove yourself from the situation ✅ Write things down ✅ Interact with them with other people present where possible Check out some of my other videos for further support and tips.
