@endocrinologist4u: Replying to @Hun🩶 Post-auricular lymph nodes (behind the ear) drain the scalp, ear, and nearby skin, so they enlarge when there is infection or inflammation in these areas. Common Causes 1. Scalp Conditions Scalp infections Dandruff or seborrheic dermatitis Tinea capitis Infected hair follicles (folliculitis) 2. Ear Infections Otitis externa (swimmer’s ear) Otitis media 3. Skin Infections Around the Ear Infected cuts or wounds Insect bites Cellulitis 4. Viral Illnesses Rubella (classically causes post-auricular nodes) Infectious mononucleosis Common viral upper respiratory infections 5. Local Skin Conditions Acne or cysts near the scalp or ear Sebaceous cyst infection 6. Less Common Causes Lymphoma Metastatic skin cancers from the scalp Most post-auricular lymph nodes swell because of minor scalp or ear infections and usually shrink once the underlying issue resolves.#doctor #lymphnodes #swollenlymphnodes #cancer #infection
What if it doesn’t go away, it’s small like a pea, it moves, but it’s not tender.

My son has had this lymph node inflamed since early December. It is not tender, but is mobile. It disappears from time to time for a day or two but otherwise has been present almost 4 months. Pediatrician looked at it at the end of December and said not to worry. Said to come back if it didn’t go away. I do have an appt in a week with his allergy/immunology doctor. I’m going to be very annoyed if it happens to disappear that day! But my son also has a history of immune system deficiency, SAD, and still requires adult pneumo vax every 4-5 years since he was 2. He is 13. He also has a lot of allergies and gets allergy shots. Any thoughts on all that?
