The people who make those posts and comments have never written a fanfic in their life and their only contribution to fandom is negativity about stories they get to access and read for free. Trust that you writing fanfic immediately makes you better than them in every way.

the people who complain are never actually writers themselves. and they just consume fics at the speed of light and never even comment on anything. with fic the rules are you write for yourself first and foremost, and you write for FUN. it doesnt matter if there's bad grammar or plot holes or anything. if the author had fun writing it, it's a valid piece of art.

You don't have to be thinking about the techniques to use them though, if you're not a perfect beginner you're almost certainly including some kind of foreshadowing or dramatic irony or whatever. AND it's about having fun anyway.
