@textmewhenyoufinish: Because I can already hear it…. The slander and the ‘fairy smut’ and the ‘anti intellectualism’ and the patronizing of something because it’s predominantly enjoyed by women….. if you accept spicy scenes in your books but only if they are non consensual then it’s a you problem ! #acotarseries #acotartok #sarahjmaas #acotarbooktok
Calling grape a spicy scene is wildly denigrating and dismissive of an act of violence against women 🤔

The people in this comment section just not understanding… “grape” is seen as a literary move, artistic, etc. it’s applauded whereas spice in acotar is degraded and shamed.

and the age as well! I quit reading Game of Thrones as it was just grossing me out with emphasis on very young teens 👎

This is a crazy misrepresentation of both books and the spaces they occupy. The purpose of spice in ACOTAR is to further romantic plot lines and audience enjoyment, because they’re romantasy books. In GOT it’s used as a vessel for character and narrative work, and violent or uncomfortable “spice” is not necessarily condoned by the narrative. There’s definitely something to say about the kinds of spice GRRM includes in his books and why, and ofc no one is absolved from criticism, but in general this is a bit of a reductionist take.

If they’re not consensual they are not ‘spicy scenes’. GRRM is very clear about what the world he’s writing about.

I never really read the «spicy» scenes in ASOIAF as «spicy» though, I thought they were meant to make the reader unsettled and uncomfortable

while I agree that ACOTAR hate is pretty forced, the spicy scenes serve a different porpoise in ASOIAF

George RR Martin doesn't write "spicy scenes". it's like a paragraph with no real description.

ASOI&F isn't romance. it doesn't have "spice" it does whoever, have s€ggs scenes (cruel and harsh, I'll give you that), but they're often a few lines, made to disturb and denounce. To compare these universes is madness, plus, on the other hand, we have an author who uses black lives matter to promote her book. and it's not George.

Spicy scenes as a whole are unnecessary and we should normalise literature without them

Zuzia Kyć :
for me difference is that in ACOTAR these scenes were meant to be enjoying for reader and seem as romantic and that's why they are imo "spicy". In ASOIAF they were meant to be explicit to equal the other explicit aspects as f.e. violence

Who is critiquing ACOTAR on spicy scenes? It’s a bad book because the plot, world building and characters are weak. Everybody in my class thought so when we read it as 16year olds when it first came out💀

ASOIAF is still the much better written series though. I'm ready for the hate comments. 🫡

Well, those scenes set out to do different things. In ASOIAF, those types of scenes are almost always, without fail, meant to make you uncomfortable
