Fun fact, the idea of Duolingo was formulated in 2009 by Carnegie Mellon University professor Luis von Ahn and his Swiss-born post-graduate student Severin Hacker

they added a 'battery' that drains every time you answer a question too, and the only way to fill it up and be allowed to carry on answering questions is to watch an ad.
the Battery will literally die halfway through a lesson sometimes.
It's absolute garbage.

It’s not about AI, it’s about firing people and use of AI instead to get all the profits for themselves. If you can hire and pay wages of 1000 people without AI then you can even more easily do that with AI. Companies are just extremely greedy

Duolingo is one of the only apps that has the Irish language available. But ever since AI was introduced, it started being straight up wrong. The Irish language is a partially dead language, meaning internet sources mix up dialects and get grammar wrong constantly. The AI picked up on this, and started inserting Ulster Irish into the taught Munster Irish, which are two different dialects to the same extent that deep Texas English and the Queens English are different.
