@lmriviere: The Strange, Sad Case of the Yuba County 5🌲❄️👣 In 1978, 5 friends would pile into a car after a basketball game, only to venture into the Plumas National Forest— hours away, in the middle of the night. Four would perish under very strange circumstances, and one, would never be found. What happened here, and why? What do you think? Quick facts that were left out of the video for time: 1. Pronunciations differ, I went with the most common I could find. 2. Gary Mathias had been a soldier who certainly knew about survival gear — so why didn’t he use those skills? What would make him leave his friend behind, AFTER, inexplicably switching shoes? 3. A man claimed to have lost control of his car on the side of the road and had a heart attack when it came to rest. He claimed to have seen headlights and flashlights before losing consciousness, but that the lights had been turned off when he shouted for help. 4. Jack Madruga loved his car and would never have left a window down in the snow, nor would he likely have driven it into the Sierras at night, into a snowstorm. 5. The friends had a basketball game in the morning none of them wanted to miss. 6. No trace of Gary Mathias has ever been found… #darkhistory #historyfacts #yubacountyfive #learnontiktokcontest #educatoraward

I remember watching an episode of some show that went over this. So crazy. Definitely felt like they thought they were worse off than they were and got lost wandering through dark woods and perhaps 2 of them coming across the trailer. The shoes is strange unless they found boots in the trailer he switched into and then wandered looking for the friends and fell in a ditch or something far off in the woods. Still crazy and so many unanswered questions. The food or supplies being right there is so insane.

I find your stories entertaining. They are truly terrible events, but I do enjoy them. But I hate them too…I need closure! I wish Ted journaled the events to help us out.

very interesting story, important note: they all had intellectual disabilities so that was potentially a large factor in their death.
