@dayonetherapy: I’m a trauma therapist and a mom of four, and this case has stayed with me. A 6-year-old was assaulted after a predator watched the way her mom knocked on the bathroom door. The next thing… he copied the knock. The child thought it was safe. Predators often study routines, trust, and familiarity before targeting children. That’s the part many parents don’t realize. And as a parent myself, that’s terrifying. Which raises a hard question: How do we teach children that something can look familiar… but still be unsafe?
