Agar chunks float so the mycelium will grow downward. Your nutrients settle in the bottom of your broth so that’s where you’ll see the most growth. It would make sense that you’d have the growth at the top of your LC with continued growth toward the bottom of the jar where the more nutrient dense LC would be located.

I believe it's because when you work it on Agar you actually strengthen the culture not just expanding it
