Atheism is not a negation of a proven or even proposed quantity, it's a non-position. If you recognize and acknowledge that awareness of any deity or religion must be introduced by passive or aggressive means and we are not born with such knowledge. Despite frequent mischaracterization, atheism should be defined as not being convinced that God exists by current evidence and arguments.

why do I have to negate theism to be considered atheist? I understand thats what you say I have to do, but why do I have to do that? why cant the opposite be true? Atheism is the lack of belief in God, and theism has to negate it? Or even further, Atheism is the belief there is no god, and theism has to negate it? why does Theism get special treatment, so that the lack of belief needs to negate it? my opinion is that it is phrased that way because traditionally most people were religious, so it was considered the default position.

You got it mixed up, atheism is the default state, Antithesm is the opposition to theism. What else could be the default state if people didn’t invent religion?

But atheism is not the negation of the proposition that a god exists. It is a simple lack of belief in the existence of a god. If you are unaware of the concept of a god. Then you by default have no belief in it. You can't believe or not believe in someone that you've never considered as a possibility.

Im a Christian that looks into both Christianity and arguments against God. So many great arguments. However, while doing so ive seen too many people fall under dunning kruger, to the point it doesnt become a debate but who spams the most nonsense and who has the loudest voice from both sides. Both sides view each other as something implausible.
