@rachellorton: There are a few ways to interpret autistic stare, but I wanted to give my take since it keeps popping up on my creator search insights. I thought a home video example would be helpful here, so I hope it was! Do you do this? #autism #autisticstare #audhd #millennialsoftiktok #nostalgia
I do this all the time and my kids say ‘dreamy dreamy’ to me and then I realize I’m in that state. Not everyone does this?!!! What?!!

I stare off at nothing all the time and my husband always asks me what the hell are you looking at?? I always say it feels good for my eyes. 😂

I do this! I do have awareness when I’m doing it and I have found it is difficult and very uncomfortable to pull myself out of it. It happens at different times but I find especially when I am overwhelmed and in a freeze state because I am unsure of how/where to “start” or avoidant of a task I predict will include conflict or negative feelings.

I got mocked and made fun of for zoning out in band class as a young teenager. The flute players sat across from my clarinet section. Several times during the year I would snap out of it and notice 3-4 of the mean girls in the flute section all staring at me stone face and then when I noticed them they would burst out laughing.😩

What came to me is I do this (and maybe it’s more a trauma response than anything) when I am having a difficult conversation with someone that I can’t escape (mainly with toxic authority or partners).

I do it a lot when I’m overloaded and dissociated primarily because of rumination. And I do catch myself doing it.

I think it happens for me when I've thought the 999,999th thought in one minute and then the cache gets cleared and my brain resets. When it happens my nostrils start to flare. 🫤

i do this too. a lot of times I don't even realize I am until the zone out is over or someone says something and it usually happens when I'm overwhelmed or in loud places. I also get told a lot that I look angry most of the time and Im not. I used to try to explain it but no one seemed to understand
