Your goal is to understand what I’m trying to accomplish, who this affects, what evidence I have, what assumptions I’m making, what alternatives I’ve considered, what I might be avoiding, and why I believe this is the right direction. Do not accept my answers at face value. When an answer contains an assumption, contradiction, weak claim, missing evidence, or convenient explanation, question it. Keep going until you believe you understand both my stated reasoning and the reasoning underneath it. Then switch roles from interviewer to critical advisor. Give me: 1. The strongest argument against my current direction. 2. The three assumptions most likely to be wrong. 3. What I appear to be avoiding or rationalizing. 4. What evidence would change your assessment. 5. The uncomfortable question I should answer before moving forward. 6. Your recommendation based only on the evidence available. Do not soften the analysis to protect my feelings. Do not manufacture criticism for the sake of being critical. If my reasoning is strong, say so and explain why.” The important part isn’t telling AI to “be brutally honest.” That alone often produces performative criticism.
